What a great photo! As with others who have posted, Heyward (that’s his name, right?) reached out and connected in such a real way. This photograph seems to capture who he is. I’ve enjoyed seeing the other photos you’ve posted so far, but this one jumped out at me – and it’s my favorite by far.

I particularly like that you _didn’t_ use a lens baby on this shot. I like that effect, but admittedly in small doses, and I like this one just as is.

Craig, this is such a wonderful portrait of a blind man who carries himself with dignity and pride. I love the shallow DOF. But the falloff of focus on the lower far edge of the box leads my eye into the backgounrd highlights. I guess because the saturation is so similar on that part of the box and the bg. One question: what ISO? With a shutter speed of 1/1500, even tho the lens is wide open, I’d say you must have been using 400 or 800 ISO with that gentle kind of light. I hope to get to Savannah some day and meet Howard.

Thanks for bringing back a feeling and showing another great image of Howard. What a great feeling this image gives. Howard has touched me in my life. Howard is a hero, showing courage and true trust in people on the streets. The back story for those who do not know, Howard is a blind man that has been selling candy on the street of Savannah for many years. As Julie has said I also have kept my empty bag of M&M’s in my camera bag as a reminder of Howards courage.

Craig, thanks for another great image and great memory.

Thank you so much for this photo of Hayward. I was so intriqued by listening to him that I never asked if I could capture him. I keep my empty M&M bag in my camera bag as it has come to symbolize courage, integrity, and absolute class. He is a very special man. Thank you for leading us to him.

Craig, this shot raises all kinds of questions in my mind. Why is this man holding a big box of M&Ms and an umbrella are just two of the more obvious ones. I have enjoyed this week of free-wheeling (as opposed to staged and well planned out) portraits because I also enjoy this kind of shooting. It’s like athletes training and then on game day “just playing” without actually thinking about all the hard work and routine drills. On the technical side I wish the box top and hot spots on the right side where darkened some in Photoshop.

My eye jumps from the yellow box to the eyes of the man; I want to know what he is looking at, and why he is carring that box. This image is intriguing to my curiosity. I could wonder around this image all day making up stories.
The man’s appearance gives a distinguished aura, but the box adds a playfulness. Fun image to ponder.

Hey. I am assuming this is the gentleman you were telling me about. Knowing his story makes the photo all the more amazing. He is so classy and distinguished and this contrasted with the bright yellow everyday m & m ’s really makes it interest. I couldn’t stop smiling for minutes after seeing this photo. I love the effect of the lens baby in all your photos. Makes you feel close to all of the subjects.

Ah yes, Heyward! I remember him and what he told us: “If you can’t find a job, you have to be creative and make one.” He’s not a big fan of asking for hand outs. An excellent portrait, Craig. One that I’m sure that his family and friends would love!

I really like this shot,and as you say on RV quite often yellow is a powerful color, and my eye
is drawn to the box of m&m’s only because i want to eat them LOL. I love light diary and am looking
