Craig, now you’re just showing off! :0) What a great image! I love the pano design, the rushing water with the clouds overhead that mimic the water. The exposure is spot on to render the kneeling person, walking stick, hat and back pack as silhouettes. All the prominate lines lead the eye right to the silhouettes. The image takes me back to a summer I worked on a Colorado ranch with my best friend and every chance we got we enjoyed the outdoors hiking, rafting, stalking deer, etc. Wonderful photograph!!

Craig, until I saw this image, I thought yesterday’s was my fav of all you’ve shown us! Now I can’t choose between the 2. EVERYthing in this just comes together to make it one heck of a wowzer image. And if that Fuji camera has a self timer, I’ll bet that’s you, right?
Anyway, whether he’s you or not, I do see some detail, so the person, at least, isn’t a true silhouette. I’d sure love to see this printed out in a large size.
Flo
Craig, now I’m curious. If that is indeed you in the picture, where is the camera? It looks like it is in the middle of the river…. I’m hoping there was a convenient rock in a good place.
I like this image in B&W as it reduces the image to a set of powerful shapes, all pointing to the person as Murry suggested. I am curious as to what it looked like in color. Did it detract in someway from the spirit of the image?
I don’t often find myself seeing images as potentially B&W. Did you see this as a B&W all along?
Thanks for a provocative image. I’ve got some thinking to do now.

Hi Flo and Jim,
Since it will be next week before this Podcast is released I will go ahead and let you know that I am behind the camera and not in the shot!!!! This is an image that required a lot of prep and a lot of work…more in the Podcast!!!…Craig
Now this is fabulous. Really worth all of your planning and trouble to get it shot and am looking forward to your podcast. The river flowing and clouds flowing almost seem mirror images, with the trees’ clean silhouettes and mist/fog just beautifully captured and moody. The model and pose is nice to complete and balance a contemplative and peaceful scene. The lines and textures are in just the right places with the blurring and shadows so nicely balanced; must have been more than technique or luck! The Gods were on your side that day! Really nice.
This is intimidating. It is making me want to throw my camera in the trash. I have been on “location” for a week and I do not think I have one inspiring image. Ugh!!
Well done Craig. I love how it says to me soft and quiet. Personally, I could have done without the hat.

Wow! I’m awestruck. Brings to mind the discussion in the forum about fine art. If this isn’t art then I don’t know what is.
Craig,
One of my all time favorites of yours. I never grow tired of it. It is so full of life with the hiker and motion of the water and sky. What a classic.

Wow Craig,
Traveler, journey, peace with the universe, looking into the future, solitude, contemplative, beauty, spiritual, harmonious, and purpose!!! These are the words that come to mind when I look at this photograph. It is truly stunning. The rhythms in the sky and the water, the B&W treatment and the positioning of the camera along with the panoramic crop!!! Wow!! My favorite as well.
I have enjoyed your provocative photographs very much, whether I liked the subject or was uneasy with them, they always invoked a strong visceral reaction in me. This photograph touches me in a deep, personal and spiritual manner. Thank you for sharing this. I wish I could look at it as the first thing I see when I wake up (bringing me peace and hope) and the last thing I see before drifting off to sleep (bringing gratitude for the day and tranquility).
Again, so glad you started Light Diary so we can experience your photography and talent. You are a constant treat!

Hi Everybody,
Thank you for the extremely kind words about “The Crossing”. It is a personal favorite and is an example of an image where many things came together to make it work including working with a location that I had phtographed dozens of times before
. This week in general is about bringing out some old favorites so that I can (in the Podcast) talk about my past focus for my work compared to the direction in which I am moving now….Sincerely, Craig
I love it! I love the panoramic, black and white, texture of the water, imitation of sky and water, and the pose of the hiker. This image really grabs my eye and asks me to take a quiet moment in nature; I want to be there! It is a classic view, but one that never dies.

Makes me want to save the earth for future generations, to experience these moments. I can hear the water.
This makes me want to get out and make images – reminds me just how powerful photos can be.
Craig-
I’m just catching up on these vidcasts and all I can say is “wow!” This is an unbelievably beautiful image for so many reasons — moment, tonality, rhythm, and so much more. I am blown away.
I love the pano format — are you still shooting panoramas in the digital age? Any tips on composing stitched panoramas with 3:2 ratio viewfinders on todays digital SLRs?
Love the work & vidcast — keep it up!!!
