Hi Craig,
This is so amazing… I shot 3 similar images at the Outer Banks Last year, two of them winning awards…the patterns in the sand, the early morning light… just borrowing what the ocean shares with us for a moment or two – nice to know we’re on the same “wave” length
Always,
Annette
This reminds me of the dunes in Death Valley, especially since it’s a somewhat abstracted view and you cannot judge scale so easily.
I love the two main curves through the photo – the dark one at the upper right, and then the big one that’s lit up by sunlight. Personally I would approach a scene like this thinking in black and white, but I really love the colors here. The earth-tones are very nice and I love the orange hues of the low-angle sunlight.
As always, I love to see your landscape photos. I enjoyed the self-critique you posted the other day on a photo you took on Tybee. These landscapes transcend beyond the traditional wide angle sharpness-front-to-back type photos and show another world. And I like that It intrigues me and inspires me.
Since you took this hand-held, did you consciously compose this scene, or was this one a result of “sketching”?

When I first saw this I also thought of Death Valley – quality of light is superb.
I’m curious if you considered having the radial lines originate in the corner?
Another “road” through water; this one seemingly cobble-stoned but sunlit.
I’m wishing for a portfolio, where I could review all your personal work along (what seems to me) this developing theme…
